The Buzzards Bay Film Festival was a celebration of our 233-square-mile bay in Southeastern Massachusetts and the 360,000 people who live in its surrounding towns and cities. As Festival Artistic Director I worked with Founder-Director Tom Gidwitz on a number of Buzzards Bay Film Fest projects. Here are a few:

Festival Organizing, Promotion and Outreach

Launched and curated a three day, three venue festival in 2012, drawing 1400+ attendees at the Zeiterion Theatre and Gallery X, New Bedford, MA and First Congregational Church, Falmouth, MA. In 2013, we followed with a one day event at Gallery X and our 2014 season was fully online.

Each year’s activities included scouting filmmakers, programming the lineup, fostering filmmaker and community engagement, developing street and digital marketing strategies, advising on design of festival graphics, partner and sponsor outreach, and promoting our goal of increased engagement with the watershed.

Shoot the Summer  | Cell Phone Cinema Contest

We started each year with a summer-long weekly cellphone contest to inspire residents to pick up their phone and shoot a one-minute video. Topics could be about anything but had to be filmed in or reference any of the bay’s watershed communities. The best of the summer cellphone videos were then included in a special segment alongside the festival’s main programming. Popular vote and juried prizes were presented during a special program.
